Vaginal Surgery and Urogynaecology
What is Vaginal Surgery and Urogynaecology?
Vaginal surgery involves a variety of procedures performed on the vagina and related structures. It is often used to treat conditions affecting the pelvic floor, vaginal walls, and other reproductive organs. Urogynaecology is a specialized area of gynecology that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders, including urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.
How is Vaginal Surgery and Urogynaecology Performed?
The approach to vaginal surgery and urogynaecology depends on the specific condition being treated. Common procedures include:
Fenton’s Procedure:
Corrects vaginal scarring and improves comfort.
Anterior and Posterior Colporrhaphy:
Repairs and strengthens the front and back walls of the vagina.
Vaginal Hysterectomy:
Removes the uterus through the vagina, often used to treat uterine prolapse or other conditions.
Sacrospinous Fixation:
Corrects vaginal vault prolapse by attaching the vagina to the sacrospinous ligament.
Tension-Free Vaginal Tape (TVT-O):
A minimally invasive procedure to treat stress urinary incontinence by supporting the urethra.
Cosmetic Vaginal Surgery:
Includes procedures like labial reduction to improve the appearance or function of the vaginal area.
These surgeries can be performed using minimally invasive techniques, ensuring quicker recovery and less discomfort. The specific procedure is determined based on the patient’s symptoms, the severity of the condition, and overall health. Our specialists provide detailed consultations to tailor the best treatment plan for each patient, ensuring optimal outcomes and quality of life.

This technique is known for its small incisions, reduced pain, and quicker recovery time compared to traditional open surgery.
Benefits and Recovery:
Laparoscopy offers numerous advantages, including:
-
Smaller Incisions -
Less Postoperative Pain -
Shorter Hospital Stays -
Quicker Recovery Times
Patients typically experience less scarring and have a faster return to daily activities compared to traditional surgery.

This procedure allows the doctor to view the uterine cavity and perform diagnostic or therapeutic interventions.
Benefits and Recovery:
Hysteroscopy offers several advantages, including:
-
Minimally Invasive Approach With Minimal Discomfort -

Colposcopy and Vulvoscopy
What is Colposcopy and Vulvoscopy?
Colposcopy and Vulvoscopy are diagnostic procedures used to examine the cervix, vagina, and vulva for signs of disease. A colposcopy involves the use of a colposcope, a specialized magnifying instrument with a light, to closely inspect the cervix and vagina for abnormalities. Vulvoscopy uses a similar approach to examine the external genitalia, including the labia and vulva, for any unusual changes. These procedures are commonly performed when a Pap smear result is abnormal or when there are symptoms such as unexplained bleeding or lesions.
Benefits:
The primary benefit of colposcopy and vulvoscopy is the early detection and diagnosis of abnormal or precancerous conditions. These procedures allow for a detailed examination and can include biopsies of suspicious areas for further analysis. Early detection of issues like cervical dysplasia, vulvar lesions, or other abnormalities increases the chances of successful treatment and management. Both colposcopy and vulvoscopy are generally quick procedures with minimal discomfort.
